Kakanui

With the summer holidays nearly over it was time for a short break away before we get back into the daily routines of school, lessons, and work. We had originally planned a week camping, but the weather has not exactly been suited to tenting so we reviewed our plans and, after a bit of web trawling, settled on Molly’s Cottage in Kakanui. We couldn’t have picked a better spot to holiday, or a more lovely community to spend some time in. Such a stunning area! Two gorgeous beaches – one fed by the Kakanui River and covered in round rocks, the other a beautiful golden sand beach with great surf waves. We walked, played at the local school, ate local free-range eggs for breakfast, collected rocks, climbed across cliffs, played games, drew pictures, wrote, swam, boogie-boarded, and celebrated Reuben’s birthday. What a lovely time away – we have sworn to return, and I am labelling Kakanui my new Happy Place.
