marking the Solstice

I know, a little late, but there was some sadness in the family that put off this wonderful yearly celebration. We all so look forward to our Winter Solstice afternoon, held on the hill at Purakaunui. The sun lies low, the bare trees cast long fingers of shadow across the grass, early daffodils are starting to poke their first shoots out of the ground, and the clouds do their best to move your attention to the sky. We eat, laugh, exchange gifts, and talk and talk and talk. It is always so lovely to spend time with family – I am so grateful to have moments like this to celebrate with such a wonderful bunch of people. Lucky me x
