commonplace astonishing

This day has been spent almost entirely at Dunedin Hospital with Mia, getting her a second round of Grommets. It’s at times like this that I see her through different eyes, and am so impressed by her approach to life – she was so patient, so quiet and understanding. Considering she has strong memories of the first time, of being knocked out and the anesthetic making her ill, she handled the whole day with such bravery. We coped with the waiting time with reading, and finished off our first chapter book The Rescuers. On the last few pages was this quote about the Poet being rescued, upon first meeting his rescuers and realising they were mice – “It must be remembered that he was a poet. It is the gift of all poets to find the commonplace astonishing and the astonishing quite natural” Well said – a true gift x

Oh what a long day! My 7yr old had his first grommet (single one) put in last year and we were in and out within 2 hours. Guess we were pretty lucky then :o) I hope they do the trick.
