Harbour Cone

Harbour Cone sits straight across the water from us, a striking and imposing part of our view. Up a small dirt road just past Broad Bay is the entrance to The Bacon Track. Across privately owned farm land we trekked through bog, manuka forests, an old crumbled down stone house, across velvety fields, up steep inclines, over those boulders that are scattered across the Otago hills, and finally to the top of Harbour Cone. The view is beyond spectacular, we stopped constantly along the way to just look around, and each time we would utter “oh wow”. For the entire walk there was not a word of complaint from either of the kids, in fact Reuben raced ahead beating us to the top by rather a lot, whereas Mia skipped, danced, and sang her way through most of it. We’ll all sleep well tonight!

  1. Love your always artistic pictures- I have a special tie to harbour cone (Hereweka) too as lived in Mac Bay and worked at Larnach Castle a few years- it is stunning in all weathers! 🙂

  2. Thank you for visiting my blog – and for your lovely comments. We saw Larnach Castle a few times, peeping out from the clouds – absolutely stunning. Thanks for the Maori name for it – I didn’t know that!
