light and dark

This morning I looked out of the kitchen window to see something I have never seen in the 5 years we have lived in Port Chalmers – a flag on the Observation Point flag post. A black flag, at half mast, for Ralph Hotere, who sadly passed away on Sunday. Ralph lived in Port Chalmers for many many years, actually at the top of the street we now live in. There is now a garden near where he formally lived which is dedicated to him, and contains a piece of his work “Black Phoenix II”. Rest in Peace, beautiful talent x
