Going South

It’s hard to put into words that make any sense just how beautiful the South Island of New Zealand is. Mostly, I will just let the pictures do the talking, as they tell a better story. On our way back from Motueka we travelled via Nelson and Blenheim, and then down State Highway 1 along the Kaikoura coastline. The water was the most incredible rich turquoise blue, a colour which made you gasp upon seeing it. We made a few stops along the way, firstly at Kanuka to have a look at the Pelorus Bridge where part of The Hobbit has been filmed according to a chatty truck driver standing by the road. Our highlight of the trip home would have to be pulling over at the Ohau Point Lookout for a break, completely unaware that there was a thriving New Zealand Fur Seal Colony there only metres from the carpark. I have truly never seen anything like it, there were literally hundreds of Seals there, sunning, playing in pools, barking, it was an incredible sight.

I would love to do this trip again, with the whole family, but with a lot more time to wander and truly appreciate. Having said that, we do know how lucky we are x
