Yesterday was Mia’s birthday party, and what an amazing day we had. The mad rush over the last few days to bake and create was so very worth it, with the final result being just wonderful. I made Lamingtons from scratch, Butterfly Cakes, and a Marble Cake for Mia’s birthday cake all from Alexa Johnstons book Ladies, A Plate and they all came out just perfect (I can highly recommend the Lamingtons, the dipping syrup is just divine). The day was an amazing success, the table looked stunning, and our house was brimming at the seams with 9 adults and 10 children. Almost all of the food was eaten, the cake completely decimated, and several of the kids even had second cups of tea – it really is a lovely sight to see children drinking out of real tea cups.
We played some great party games, good ole pass-the-parcel, and an excellent version of musical statues that I found when researching kids games on the internet where, instead of freezing when the music stops, you hold up a picture of an animal and the kids have to be that animal. It was very funny to watch 9 kids being bears, snakes, roosters, ducks, and cows. Of course Mia decided to be shy at that point, but once everyone was gone insisted that the family play the game with her. Mia loved her new desk and stool, and used this as the point for which she unwrapped all gifts that were then stored inside the desk. She had an amazing party, and was completely spent by the end of the day, but what a day! Happy Birthday Mia Esme Rose.
