Mia turns 3

Yesterday was Mia’s third birthday. Today she woke up and said “are you ready Dad, one two three Happy Birthday to you” and then announced it was time to get up and check her room for balloons. She’s at that wonderful age when everything, every detail, seems to sink in and remain a permanent memory. She had a lovely day, starting with, of course, “are you ready Mia… 1 2 3 Happy Birthday to you…” and then off to her room to see her floor filled with green balloons. The only trouble I have had with the balloon tradition this year is that Max seems to like playing, popping, and chewing on them… shouldn’t a dog hate the sound and feel of balloons?

Off to the lounge to open presents and she was tearing through them like a pro with a rather serious look on her face. She received really wonderful gifts from her family, and loves every one. We put her cards up on the dresser for her but by the time I got home last night they were gone. When I asked “where?” the answer was “she’s arranged them on her own dresser in her room”. So, first thing this morning she collected her new giraffe and zebra from Reuben and had a pile of birthday cards under her arm.  She’s playing with all of these now along with a wind-up caterpillar from her Janma and Roger.

I made her two new dolls with the intention of having them in their own special bag with at least one change of clothes each so that she could dress and un-dress them. Being that I was still sewing at 10pm the night before the dolls have one set of clothes each, I’ll make some more later. I’m really pleased with them. They seem to have been successful, she especially likes the one in blue, maybe because he has a hat. Having said that the hat and scarf have lasted a day and are now sitting on the kitchen table on their own. I have tried to encourage her to name them, but so far she seems to just call them both Dora – which is also the name for the other doll I made her. My suggestions of “how about Humphrey” have not swayed her.
