The Evening Star Building, Lower Stuart Street, finished in 1863, now the headquarters for Allied Press including the Otago Daily Times. Designed by Architect Edmund Anscombe who also designed a large amount of the buildings that form the hub of Otago University, surrounding the University of Otago Clock Tower Complex, as well as the South Seas International Exhibition at Logan Park, Arthur Barnett, and the Otago Girls High School amongst many others, before moving to Wellington and designing many notable buildings thereas well.

These posts make me miss Dunedin – it’s such a beautiful city (especially when compared to Christchurch at the moment!). I’m enjoying them though. Have a great weekend!
Thanks so much Emma – and to you too x
Very interesting! I love the floor!
Thanks Jill x
I have just added this short biography of Edmund Anscombe to the Society’s web page due to the ddestruction of the Anzac Avenue trees by the road realignment. His work in urban landscapes and town planming was pivotal in the Dunedin Exhibition 1925-26. Regards Daseditor
